Amy Winehouse died today…who is she? Well, she was an English pop singer. Amy was born in the south area of north London to a Jewish family who were the source of her interest in jazz. Amy was the younger of two children. When Amy was nine years old, her grandmother suggested she attend a theatrical school for acting training. At age ten, she founded a short-lived rap group called “Sweet 'n' Sour’ with childhood friend. Amy, soon got her first guitar at 13 years old, she became a Frank Sinatra fan early on in her life because her Father often sang his songs to young Amy, who also took to a constant habit of singing to the point that teachers found it difficult keeping her quiet in class. At 14 she had her first run in with the law at her school and was expelled. Amy thought of herself as an artist, so she applied at another Theatrical school where she exceeded everyone in her musical rolls.
She was only 24 with six Grammy nods, crashing headfirst into success and despair. By 2008, her continued drug problems threatened her career. Amy Winehouse died today, no one by her side, no ambulance was called. When authorities arrived, she had already passed away.
Why am I talking about Amy? Well, she was a young woman, which was beautiful at one point with the gift of song, with friends and family. What went wrong? Some may ask, the answer is clear in our mind. I don’t really need to spell it out. We all go thru rough spots in our life, but drugs and alcohol are not the answer…it is a slow process to fall out of grace and into sin, and eventually into death. Don’t think it can’t happen to you, because it can happen to any of us.
It is truly a “slow fade”, small wrong choices make later for big mistakes. Make sure you make the right choice the first time, even if you don’t like it. Do what is right in God’s eyes and you will live. Poor Amy Winehouse she died…
